There is nowhere else in Australia where you can sleep in convict-built cottages on the grounds of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Six heritage cottages sit within Woolmers Estate, one of Australia’s 11 UNESCO World Heritage convict sites and the only one in Northern Tasmania offering overnight accommodation. These are original 1840s buildings, built by convict hands under the Assignment System, now carefully restored with wood heating, electric blankets, self-contained kitchens and every modern comfort. The heritage is real. The stay is genuinely comfortable.

“Woolmers really is the jewel in the crown of heritage properties in Australia, a must see.”

What makes this different from any other Longford, Tasmania accommodation is what happens after you check in. Walk the grounds at sunset. Sit on your cottage verandah while the light changes across 18 original heritage buildings. During rose season, wander Australia’s National Rose Garden in the long Tasmanian evening light — with the estate entirely to yourself.

Whether you are planning a romantic getaway Tasmania, a couples retreat, a weekend getaway in Tasmania with friends, or a family holiday based in the Northern Midlands, these heritage cottages offer something no hotel or boutique accommodation near Launceston can match: a night inside a World Heritage landscape.
